### Roulette Table

Roulette is one of the most famous games played in casinos. The object of the game is to guess on which numbered-slot of the wheel the ball will land. Each roulette table has a unique and distinctive set of chips. The chips can only be used in the roulette table where it was purchased. When you purchase them, the value of your chips is determined by the minimum limit of the game.

Roulette Table: How to Play the Game

The roulette wheel is comprised of 37 segments that are numbered 0 to 36. (The European version of the game uses a 36-slot wheel). To begin the game, the dealer spins the wheel in one direction and releases a small white ball in the other direction.

The players can place bets on the roulette table until such a time that the dealer announces, “No more bets.” Whichever segment the ball lands, the winner is determined if the slot number corresponds with the roulette table number where he placed his bet. The dealer calls out the winning number and places a marker on the roulette table to distinguish it from al the other bets. After the roulette table is cleared of the losing bets, the dealer pays the winners. Players can then place in new bets on the roulette table when the dealer says, “Place your bets.”

The Roulette Table Layout

There are 13 types of bets you can make using the roulette table layout. The Straight Up (A) or One Number means that you are placing your bet on any of the 37 single numbers indicated on the roulette table. So for instance, if you place an A bet on 34 Red, it means that you’re guessing the white ball will land on that specific number indicated on the wheel.

The second type of bet is the Split (‘B) or Two Numbers. This is where you place a bet between two numbers on the roulette table. So if you place a B bet between 32 Red and 33 Black, you have a 17 to 1 chance of hitting either number.

The Street C or Three Numbers lets you post a combination of bets on the line adjoining three numbers. Your payout odds of placing this kind of bet is 11 to 1.

The Four Numbers (D) or Corner bet is when you place a bet for a combination of four numbers. On the roulette table, you may also place in the Six Line (E) or Six Numbers bet, the Column (F), and the Dozen (G). There is also the Low (H) bet where you can bet for the numbers 1 through 18 and the High (I) for the numbers 19 through 36. The Odd, the Red, and the Black are all even-money bets which you can also place on the roulette table.

### Roulette Strategy

Roulette is probably the one casino game where several gaming strategies and systems are invented. Now, of course, there is no such thing as a perfect roulette strategy but there’s always the fact that when you adopt some sort of system even in this game of chance, you limit your losses, control your winnings, and have a roulette strategy that will give you more chances of winning.

Roulette Strategy Lesson 1 – Probability

Many roulette gambling systems have failed simply because the ones who invented them based their roulette strategy on probability. Roulette is a game of chance and not of probability. When you spin the wheel, the outcome is never determined by previous spins. So what happens with this roulette strategy is that for every spin, you get the same probability for possible outcomes.

For example, you make a \$5 bet on Black for 38 spins on a Double-Zero wheel. You will get off as either the winner or the loser every other spin. If you’re lucky, you would be up and if you’re unlucky, you would be down by more than \$10. In the end, your roulette strategy comes down to deciding when to quit since that actually controls the amount of your winnings and losses.

Roulette Strategy Lesson 2 – Casino Advantage

It is an established fact in roulette that casinos always have a mathematical advantage over the player. This is something that you cannot eliminate. A roulette strategy is not to think of it as your adversary. It makes little difference to your chances of winning.

Take for example a roulette game with no casino advantage where you won 37 to 1 instead of 35 to 1 on numbers. When the outcome was zero, you didn’t lose the outside bets but during the past several times that you have watched the wheel spin, you have been either winning or losing. So with this roulette strategy, even without the casino advantage, you still get the same winning chances. Depending therefore on luck and knowing when to quit is still a great roulette strategy to adopt.

Roulette Strategy Lesson 3 – Chips on the Table

Some players, especially those who participate in online gambling, are quite trigger-happy when they place their bets. What they do is place a small bet here, some there, and a few more in other parts of the table. The reason for this roulette strategy is probably to satisfy that inner intuition that tell them where to bet and how much. But this roulette strategy is not feasible in the long run for the longer the wheel spins, the more losses you encounter and the lesser your chances of winning.

### Roulette Rule

French for “small wheel”, the roulette wheel game that we see played in Monaco’s Monte Carlo was first played in France back in the 17th century. Now, it is one of the most popular gambling games that originated from Europe. Below are some basic roulette rules of the game to help you.

Roulette Rules – The Game Basics

Roulette is usually played by up to eight people who play against the house represented by the croupier or dealer. The game is played by spinning the roulette wheel which has 37 slots or 38 (American roulette). The players use colored chips to make their bets and at the end of the game, the chips are exchanged for cash chips which can be converted into cash money.

According to roulette rules, the players put in their bets on numbers – from 0 to 36 in the table layout before the dealer would spin the wheel. The winners are determined by which numbered slot the ball lands. So if you bet 4 in the table layout and the ball lands on the number 4 slot of the roulette wheel, you win.

There are two basic roulette rules involved in the game.

Roulette Rule 1 – En Prison

The En Prison rule is a roulette rule that is applied only to even-money bets. Also, this roulette rule is only applied in some casinos. This roulette rule goes as follows: When the outcome of the wheel is zero, some casinos who allow this roulette rule give the player the option to either take back half of his bet or leave the bet for another spin. Thus, the term “en prison” came to be. If at the second spin, the outcome is still zero, then the player loses the bet.

Roulette Rule 2 – La Partage

The La Partage roulette rule is similar to the first roulette rule. However, in the La Partage roulette rule, the player is not allowed to leave the bet en prison for the next spin. Therefore, in this roulette rule, the player immediately loses half of his bet when the outcome of the spin is zero. This roulette rule essentially applies on the ‘outside’ even-money bets, such as Red/Black, High/Low, or Odd/Even.

Both the La Partage and the En Prison roulette rules aim to cut the house advantage on the ‘even-money’ bets in half. So for instance, if you bet on Red on a European roulette wheel (single zero) with both of these roulette rules applied, the house advantage of 2.7% is lowered down to 1.35%. And if you make the same bet on the American roulette wheel where the same roulette rules apply, the house advantage lowers down to 2.63% from the original high of 5.26%.

### Roulette

Roulette is a game that is one of the popular attractions in casinos and game houses. The term actually came from the French word for “small wheel.” While many believe that the roulette wheel was invented by the 17th century French mathematician, Blaise Pascal, others state that it originated from Asia.

History of Roulette

Some historians have found that the game actually came from China. When Dominican monks came to this part of the world to trade, they brought roulette back to Europe with them.

During the 18th century, Prince Charles of Monaco introduced gambling to his subjects as a way to remedy the fiscal crisis that his country was facing. Thus, along with other games, the roulette wheel was popularized.

Later on, after several decades, the roulette wheel underwent several modifications. In 1842, the Frenchmen Francois and Louis Blanc came up with the single “0” game, which became the precursor of the modern roulette wheel. However, in the 1800s, when the game was brought to the Americas during the California Gold Rush, the roulette wheel was returned to its original “00”.

Types of Roulette

There are two general types of roulette – American roulette wheel and the European roulette wheel.

The American roulette wheel has 38 numbers, including 0, 00, and 1 to 36. Because of the presence of two zeros (0, 00) in American roulette, the gambling house gets a 5.26% advantage. For instance, if you bet \$100, the house will profit \$5.26.

The European version of the wheel contains only 37 numbers, including 0 and 1 to 36. Thus with only one zero (0), the house gets an advantage of 2.70%. This means that every time you bet \$100, the house will gain \$2.70.

A significant different between these two roulette games is the color of the gambling chips used. While American roulette uses colored chips so players can distinguish the difference between his chips/bets from that of other players, the European version of the game use the same color for all their chips. For this reason, European roulette gamers must rely on their memory to know which of those chips on the table are theirs.

In addition, croupiers in European roulette use a long stick, called the Rake, to sweep the chips off the table. In the American version of the game however, the dealers use their hands and arms when sweeping in all the chips.

Moreover, European roulette is markedly different from that of its American cousin due to the fact that if the ball lands on the zero (0), the player has the choice to go for the en prison rule where he can choose to give up half of his wagers or to leave them be for the next game.
